I was doing some reading about what defense troops for use in the war clan castle. I came across this page with some pretty good info. Here's the text from the page. I have always thought that dragons may not be the best idea for clan castle defense, they are expensive and slow. We have some guys in the clan with valkries, we should possibly change our strategy. What do you think?

Except for noobs the first move of anyone attacking a TH9 or lower is to draw out the clan castle.
What have you guys found to be the best method of making this hard to do? I have my clan castle directly in the middle so you have to make it through walls on my TH8 but most of my clan does not do this. We have two very strong players in our clan and the lower your town hall is the more important castle troops are to your defense... because they are by far your best defense. Here are the combos that I have expiremented with. Please reply with any suggestion or ideas that have worked for you. Also if you would like to join our clan we are recruiting TH7s of any level but are planning to wait till the have maxed everything including walls before going to 8 and nearly maxed TH8 or TH9s. G+ Hangouts is the name of the clan. We are 24-3 all time in wars.
25 person castle
A 25 person castle for a TH8 should have enough wall coverage to give it a decent protection. However most people still are not focused on protecting their clan castle. TH8 attackers will almost always attempt to draw out the troops first.
2 valkries 2 wizards 1 barb: Two valkries will take a lot of archers to bring them down and should give enough time for your wizards to get in a few shots. The hope here is that the attacker will panic and use some of his wizards.
21 archers 1 wizard: This works great because it takes a long time for the wizard to come out of the castle. There is a chance that the attacker might think that he got all the troops and sending his giants in. However you have a chance of doing this with 17 archers and 2 wizards in hopes of doing more damage on the main attack.
5 barbs 1 witch 2 wizards: The barbs will ack as extra skeltons for the witch and wizard to get into place. This could work well in unhidden bases... even better if the unhidden castle is near the edge of the board forcing the toops to be fought while in the range of defenses.
1 dragon 1 giant: This is only to be used in a well hidden clan castle. The giant could take a lot of damage allowing the dragon to get a few splash attacks in before it starts taking damage. However this is expensive and the troops are slow.
1 pekka: This is only to be used in a well hidden clan castle. I really hate going without splash damage but the pekka can take a lot of damage inside of the walls allowing your defenses to pound the attacks that are too busy focusing on the pekka. However this is expensive.
20 person castle
8 barbs 1 valkyrie 1 wizard: This seemed to work the best.. the splash damage and the tank from the valkyrie protects the wizard and gives it a few more shots. The barbs have a chance of hiding the valkyrie having the attacker think that 9 barbs and 1 wizard are easy pickings. However if an all dragon attack comes your way... you're effed. But if you are TH7 you are prolly eff'd anyway.
16 Archers 1 wizard: This works great because it takes a long time for the wizard to come out of the castle. There is a chance that the attacker might think that he got all the troops and sending his giants in. However you have a chance of doing this with 12 archers and 2 wizards and those two wizards will destroy any army.
2 valkyries 1 wizard: The valks will tank with their splash damage while the wizard stays back and shoots from a distance.
1 witch 2 wizards: The hope here is to have the witch's skeltons draw the fire away from your wizards allowing them to do their splash damage.
1 Dragon: I think this is the worst idea. They are expensive and easy to kill if drawn away from defenses.
15 person castle
7 archers 2 wizards: If you have a 15 person castle then you are probably at TH5. You could get a few noob attacks that forget to draw out your troops. If this happens the wizards will make quick work of the army.
